HD Setup hack 1.1

This file fixes an offset error I made regarding version 7.0.0. That is the only change in the docs. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If you ran System 7 on your Mac, and wanted to use AppleÕs formatting software, but had a drive not sold by Apple, you have been out of luck. That has changed. This quick hack works for most drives manufactured by: CDC, Conner, Miniscribe, Quantum, Rodime, Seagate, and Sony. This hack worked on all but one of the drives we tested it with. Use at your own riskÉ

1) Open a COPY of ÒApple HD SC SetupÓ with ResEdit.
2) Open ÒCODEÓ ID=1.
3) In version 7.0.1, go to offset +$413A.
In version 7.0.0, go to offset +$411E.
4) Change the two words there
			from $222E $0010
			to $4E71 $7203
Do NOT make this change if the two words are not $222E $0010.
5) Save your changes.
6) Run HD Setup. All drives covered should be available to work on.
7) After initializing, manually partition to get the maximum storage.

This hack has been tested on HD Setup 7.0 and 7.0.1 on several drives made by Quantum and Seagate. It is NOT guaranteed to work on prior or future versions of HD Setup or with brands not mentioned above. If the drive appears to format, but refuses to mount, reformat with HD Setup version 1.5 (from the System 5 disks) and then run your patched 7.0.x.

As with all such quick hacks, use at your own risk.
