Subject: [*] AliasMenu 2.0.2

AliasMenu is a control panel that adds customized menus to the menu bar.
These menus work like the Apple menu: Each menu has a corresponding folder
and the menu automatically reflects the folder's content.

The menu name can be replaced by a custom icon, to get a nice layout or to
save room in the menu bar and add more menus.

Version 2.0.2 fixes all Mac OS 8.5-related problems. It also introduces a
fast and efficient URL handling, with full support for Mac OS 8.5 Internet
clippings.

A complete description of changes is available at
<http://www.integra.fr/bw/aliasmenu202chg-us.html>.

The new version can be downloaded from
<http://www.integra.fr/bw/aliasmenu-us.html>.

AliasMenu 2 features:

* Menus are present in all opened applications.

* The number of menus is unlimited.

* Menus can be added after the application's menus, or inserted before.

* Keyboard shortcuts are always active and can use any modifier key.

* Ordering menus and items is easy. Separators can be inserted and removed
on the fly.

* Items of any kind can be put into a menu: folders, applications,
documents, servers, scripts, and URLs. Use AliasMenu to create several
cross-application bookmarks menus, always available.

* Multiple launching: launch several items with a single keystroke or menu
command.

* Automatic text typing: put a text clipping in a menu to 'type' its text
in any application.

* AliasMenu can trigger FKeys from separate files, allowing the use of an
unlimited number of FKeys with user-defined key shortcuts.

AliasMenu is a $25 shareware. Secure online registration through Kagi is
available. Encrypted e-mail registration and other methods are available
within the control panel.

System requirements: System 7.0 or better, PowerMac or any Mac with color
capabilities.

Subject: [*] BugScan 1.0b1 Revision

BugScan 1.0b1

October 23, 1998

BugScan is freeware - by downloading this file, you agree to use it at your
own risk.

This application was mainly designed for our clients to determine if they
do in fact have the AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files on their hard
drives. These viruses have become real pests for many of us. Make sure you
use Virex or Norton Anti Virus if you get a red light (and then call your
local computer consultant). If you get a green light, bonus! If you don't
own one of these applications already, make one of them your next purchase.

BugScan will detect all files for all strains of the AutoStart 9805 Worm
current at 10/23/98 as well the Graphics Accelerator Extension (GAX).
BugScan will also detect any combination of these files. Click BugScan's
'Help' button to read more about the viruses themselves.

We strongly recommend that you restart your Mac with extensions off
(holding down the 'shift' key) before running BugScan. You can now restart
your Mac from directly within BugScan if needed.

BugScan gives you two scanning options:

Quick Scan Method

Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in their exact
locations on the selected volume. This method does a top level scan and a
system level scan on the selected volume (a system level scan is performed
only if there is a System Folder on the selected volume).

Full Scan Method

Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in all locations on the
selected volume - in other words, everywhere. Note that the full scan
method takes much longer and even longer yet when scanning network volumes.
This is, however, the recommended method.

BugScan gives you three menu options:

Install 9805 Defense

Creates invisible, locked folders in the appropriate locations on your
startup disk to combat the AutoStart 9805 Worm.

Install GAX (Graphics Accelerator) Defense

Creates an invisible, locked folder in the Extensions Folder on your
startup disk to combat the Graphics Accelerator Virus.

Open QuickTime Control Panel

Opens the QuickTime Control Panel and prompts you to turn the "Enable
CD-ROM AutoPlay" function off. BugScan quits immediately after opening the
Control Panel.

If BugScan locates any virus applications and/or virus reference files,
BugScan will attempt to remove them. If any of the files are already in use
(infecting your hard drive), BugScan warns you and prompts you to delete
them manually. BugScan will do its very best to make any invisible files
visible and to move all these files to the trash. If this is not necessary,
the files will be deleted but you'll still need to do a proper virus scan
to see if the rest of your Mac has been infected. Hopefully not.

Running BugScan does not make your Mac instantly 'safe'! Everyone needs to
practice "safe computing" from now on!

Remember to do a proper virus scan using Virex or Norton Anti Virus. The
bad news is that if you've been infected for some time now, you'll probably
be looking at a complete reformat and re-install. The best advice we can
give you is to get on this ASAP.

We do not provide free technical support for freeware (nor free technical
support for virus-hunting, troubleshooting and maintenance).

Good luck...

Long Live Apple!

Subject: [*] Default Folder 2.9.3 - Open/Save Dialog Enhancer

Following is a submission of Default Folder 2.9.3. It should replace any
older English versions of Default Folder in the archives.

Default Folder is a popular shareware control panel that enhances Open and
Save dialog boxes to make it easier for you to manage files on your
Macintosh. It provides many of the essential features of the commercial
ACTION Files, SuperBoomerang, and Directory Assistance utilities, but
without the infrequently used extras that take their toll in compatibility,
memory, and CPU usage. And it's fully compatible with Mac OS 8.5.

Default Folder's time saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow users to:

- Set up a default folder for any or all applications.
- Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu.
- See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu.
- Click on a Finder window to display it in an Open or Save dialog.
- Open the folder shown in an Open or Save dialog in the Finder.
- Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and
creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs.
- "Rebound" back to the last file used.
- Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving
a file with the same name as an existing file.
- Click on greyed-out filenames in Save dialogs to use the name
  of an existing file.
- Speed up the display of Open and Save dialogs by turning off custom
color icons in the file list.

Default Folder will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher.
In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates are
available at:

         <http://www.stclairsoft.com/>

Default Folder may be included on the UMich and Info-Mac CD-ROMs.

Version 2.9.3 of Default Folder provides some compatibility fixes for
problems reported since the release of version 2.9.1. Some of the
improvements in this release include:
----------------

 - Turning on the "Sort Alphabetically" option would cause some of
Default Folder's options to be turned off the next time the Prefs
dialog was opened. This no longer occurs.
 - Clicking on the desktop no longer selects the wrong folder when
saving a file located on a file server.
 - Fixed a crash with Photoshop 3.
 - Fixed remaining cursor problems with Norton AntiVirus.
 - Some minor display anomolies have been fixed.

is also an option to display the currently running processes in a
special dock.

DragThing requires at least System 7.5.5 (8.0 or later recommended) and a
Macintosh with a minimum of a Motorola 68020 or PowerPC 601 processor.
Storing URLs in docks requires the Internet Config extension to be
installed, version 2.0 or later (included with the DragThing installer).

menu the way the current MacOS does. It also caches the list. This has
two benefits. The first is that it'll be MUCH faster for every font menu
after the first, as long as your fonts haven't changed (applications that
have fonts in their resource forks will clobber the caching, but they've
been warned about that by Apple's Developer Support for more than five
years). The second benefit is that after the first time, the memory
requirements of FFM are much smaller. If you were seeing problems in a
control panel or desk accessory, you should no longer see them as long as
you've run an application that builds a font menu first.

FastFontMenu is WorldScript savvy, and should give you a font menu that's
sorted in the same order that you get without it installed. If you find
that this isn't the case, drop me a note, and I'll look into it.

For a small number of fonts, you'll see a relatively small improvement if
you notice it at all, but for those people who have a bazillion fonts in
their systems, the speed improvement in launching most applications is
pretty darned significant. The only case I know of where FastFontMenu can
slow things down is on systems which have mostly non-Roman fonts
installed. The reason for this is that for non-Roman fonts, FastFontMenu
doesn't do the smartest thing possible for the international string
comparisons of the font names.

FastFontMenu 1.1.1 is free-ware. FastFontMenu may be distributed and used
freely, but not sold for profit. Please only distribute the complete,
original archive containing FastFontMenu and this ReadMe file. If you
sell FastFontMenu for profit, I'll have to say bad things about you, and
we wouldn't want that. Don't even think of contacting me about putting
FastFontMenu onto a compilation of shareware and freeware that you're
going to sell for a profit. I won't grant you permission. Period. If you
are putting FFM onto a software compilation that is included with a
magazine, you have permission to do that if you send me the first copy of
the magazine and the compilation that accompanies it that include
FastFontMenu.

Icon Tools, a CNET/Download.com Top Pick and Most Popular item, is an
extremely innovative tool which lets users personalize their desktops by
modifying any icon in many creative ways.

With a single click (actually, a control-click), Icon Tools can copy,
paste, rotate, flip, reduce, or apply special effects to file, folder and
disk icons. It can also create thumbnail preview icons for pictures and
movies of any kind!

Version 1.5 now takes advantage of the new 32-bit icons under Mac OS 8.5!
Picture preview icons will look much better, and you will also be able to
apply transparent or translucent Icon Stamps! Preview icons are now created
for picture clippings too.

Breaking the barriers of the Finder's labels, Icon Tools provides a
unique Icon Stamps feature: instantly mark your documents and applications
with tags, symbols, markers, labels, widgets of any kind - more than a
hundred are included in the package, but you can make your own stamps too!

Even on crowded hard disks and cluttered desktops, Icon Tools will let
you identify important files at a glance. Mark documents to be printed with
a small printer stamp, files to be e-mailed with an e-mail symbol, tear
apart the icons of obsolete documents... the possibilities are endless.

Icon Tools also lets users easily add Icon Frames to any existing icon.
Adding backgrounds or making folder and disk icons for your favorite
applications is easier than ever. Included are frames for making custom
CD-ROM or Zip disk icons with no effort!

Icon Tools is a $15 shareware Contextual Menu Manager plug-in for Mac OS 8.

"Icon Tools is the quick and easy way to copy, paste, and jazz up your icons."

"Icon Tools is really pretty exceptional. We've seen a bunch of
icon-editing utilities over the years, but never before have we seen so
much icon-hacking power crammed into such a minimalist interface."

NOVA 3.0
NOVA was designed to be a stable, application based screensaver

that generally cause instability in the MacOS. NOVA provides three main
services to the user: (1) eliminates the potential for phosphor screen
burn-in, (2) provides security for your system, and (3) provides
entertainment for yourself and those who work around you.

Version 3.0 adds many enhancements, including (this is the short list):

1.	Entire rewrite of Settings application using Powerplant, and added
features...

2.	Added option to be "friendlier" to the Mac system. Instead of simply
yielding a little morsel of time to the background tasks by only calling
WaitNextEvent () once or twice every so often, I call it a lot of more.
The more unfriendly the setting, the less WNE gets called.

3.	Added a screen to activate/deactivate saverlets so that it's easier to
set which saverlets will be used by the random selection feature.

4. Added ability to launch a saverlet automatically upon system startup,
restart or when waking from sleep. Keeps those prying eyes off your computer!

5.	Now you can log incorrect password attempts in both saverlets and
trying to enter into the settings dialog. You can even show what the
user attempted to put in as a password.

6. Complete rewrite of all saverlets and the Saverlet SDK, providing
meaner, faster and leaner Saverlets.

7. Mac OS 8.5 (Allegro) compatibility (support for hiding the new control

Ocean Bound: A Strategy Game for the Macintosh

Rampaging lions. No food. Hostile villagers. Sinister burial grounds.
Being stranded in the wilderness isn't as fun as it used to be. You're
stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere, untamed, savage,
filled with things who would be delighted to devour you. Your only
hope? Building a boat and escaping before your food (or luck) runs
out.

To escape, you will have to grow food, find resources, fend off the
nasty hungry creatures, and still free up people to build your ship.
It's never simple, though ... you will be faced with 60 different
islands, each with a different challenge. Maybe you'll have hardly any
wood. Maybe the natives are closing in. And maybe the lions are just
really, really fast.

Requirements:

Ocean Bound requires a 68020 Macintosh or higher (LCIII or higher
recommended), 2.5 MB of free RAM, 2.5 MB of hard disk space and a
minimum 13 inch 256 colour monitor. System 7 is also required.

The Ultimate Label Printer Pro prints labels for CD, Zip, audio cassette,
Jaz, SyJet, EZ Flyer, DAT, MO, and other media cases on plain paper. Simply
cut out the labels and fold them into your cases. Because the Ultimate
Label Printer Pro uses a Plug-In technology, support for new media can
easily be added to match your exact needs. Since there is NO LIMIT to the
number of Plug-Ins you can use, registering once allows you to take
advantage of all of the new Plug-Ins that we are constantly developing.

The Ultimate Label Printer Pro 5.1.1 uses drag and drop for text and
picture insertion, and now supports fully styled rotated text, with
multiple sizes, fonts, attributes, and colors, as well as new background
color options. High resolution graphics can also be added to the labels,
and can be scaled and repositioned.

Version 5.1.1 adds Mac OS 8.5 Compatibility, and many new features and bug
