Subject: [*] bedlam-2-106

Bedlam 2 is a fast action, arcade-style game with forty-five
levels of blistering game play. Mankind has been virtually wiped
out by an extraterrestrial armada! This shoot'em up game play
puts you in theseat of the XJ-777, code-named "Annihilator".
Only you can help save the solar system from ruthless alien
domination. As you blast away at the invading forces, your ship
moves along the bottom of the screen trying to avoid a barrage of
enemy firepower, collisions with attacking ships and the
occasional chunk of floating space debris. By racking up points
along the way, you earn much-needed extra ships, and can even
capture hunks of gold bars released when you've demolished the
ships of some of the greedy trespassers. Other fun and nasty
surprises materialize during your long mission to free our galaxy
from this evil infestation.

Bedlam 2 contains over 10 music tracks utilizing QuickTime
technology, tons of sprites, high-quality "stereo" sound effects,
and several full 256 color images. The many exciting and
nerve-wracking features are sure to challenge your senses and
give your mouse finger a workout.

Version 1.0.6 is highly recommended, especially for MacOS 8.5.
An updater for Bedlam 2 v1.0.4->v1.0.6 is available from our
website. Bedlam 2 v1.0.4 is required for the updater.

Version 1.0.6 changes include:

  - Fixed a memory bug from 1.0.5 which caused Bedlam 2 to
crash on some Macs. Note: v1.0.5 was a short-lived release.

Version 1.0.5 changes included:
  - This version is MacOS 8.5 compatible.
  - Better memory management.
  - Lower memory requirements (almost 700k lower than previous
     versions).
  - Holding down mouse button after destruction of last
     mothership will skip
    the winning scene credits.
  - Faster drawing to screen (blitting).
  - Other minor tweaks.

More information about Bedlam 2 is available at our web site

Subject: [*] Burn 2.5

I'm pleased to announce the latest release of Burn, version 2.5.

Now fully Macintosh 8.5 and Mac OS HFS+ file system compatible.

Enhance your privacy by securely deleting data from your computer. Most
people don't realize that emptying the trash does not erase the content of
the file being deleted. Burn solves this problem by overwritting the
file's data before deleting it.

Burn features user specified erase patterns and number of passes.

Burn 2.5 fixes a problem where erase free space would not erase more than 2
gigabytes of free space from drives that had more free space available.
Burn 2.5 has also been thoroughly tested with Macintosh OS 8.5 and the new
Mac OS HFS+ file system.

Note:
1) FAT version - a 68K version is also posted.
2) Version 2.1.1 replaces version 2.0.2. It handles Japanese and other
non-Roman scripts. Bugs were fixed and new features were added.

Data Rescue is a tool for recovering lost Macintosh volumes. It recovers
files and folders
from crashed hard disks, floppy disks, or removable cartridges. Recovered
data are saved to
another medium, leaving the original disk untouched.
The main interest in Data Rescue is that the strategy for finding lost
files is original,
different from the strategies used by other tools like 'Norton
Utilities'. Not only will it
find your data in situations where the other tools fail, but it will
recover them in a much
better condition, restoring icons, dates and even folder hierarchy.
The shareware fee for Data Rescue is $39. Until you register your copy
with a personnal code,
you can only recover 1 file per session. This allows you to test Data
Rescue and check that it
helps you in your particular situation.
Works on all Macs, needs System 7 or better. Compatible with MacOS 8.5
and HFS+.
Can be distributed freely for non-profit purposes in the form of this
archive.
Documentation included, updates at <http://www.wildbits.com/rescue/>

Subject: [*] Diet Sleuth 2.0.4

Diet Sleuth 2.0.4:

Diet Sleuth is a nutritional database and personal health logbook for the
Macintosh.

Diet Sleuth allows you to keep track of what foods you eat each day, and
their nutritional value. For each day, you select the foods you have eaten,
and the number of servings of each. Diet Sleuth will automatically
calculate your caloric intake, fat grams, carbohydrates, fiber, protein,
cholesterol, along with sodium, potassium, and calcium. You can select
from over 5000 different foods from 21 catagories, including fast food,
lunchmeat, junk food, seafood, and baby food. In addition to the included
food groups, you can create and edit your own foods in a separate catagory.
You can also create a catagory of favorite foods to quickly access commonly
used foods. A built-in Recipe Editor allows you to quickly enter a custom
recipe, with the nutritional information automatically calculated, based on
the ingedients.

You may also track your weight, and estimate your percent body fat, and
calories burned, along with your projected weight loss. Graphing functions
are also available.

The URL to download a copy of Diet Sleuth is

What's it do?
------------
This small utility is used as an alternative way to eject removable volumes
(ie. disks, cd, etc). It also has the Following Features:
*Can eject shared volumes, which would normally require you to shut off
sharing to eject it.
*Great to use if you don't like to drag to the trash
*If an application or file on the volume is open when you eject the disk,
it will keep the app, and/or file open and untouched until you go back to
at which time it will ask for the disk again.
*Can remove disk images from the desktop

=46uture Features
--------------.
* The ability to rebuild the desktop of the disk next time it is inserted
* Automatically Quit/Close/Save open applications or files on the drive
before it ejects
* Rebuild your hard drive's desktop

Known Bugs
------------
There are no know bugs at this time.

Registration Information
-------------
This program is shareware. The shareware fee is $5. Please help us pay our
expenses. If you register we will send you the upgrade to later versions
free and before everyone else. I know that doesn't sound like much, but we
don't believe in serial numbers, and stuff to force people to pay. A Site
License is also available and costs $50 (roughly equal to 10 users) and
covers all locations for your organization within a 160 kilometer radius of
your site (100 miles). One big advantage of a Site License is that you do
not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the
software. A World-Wide License costs $1000 and it covers all locations for
your organization on the planet earth.

How to Register
-------------
Paying for Ejecter is fairly simple. Open the Register program that
accompanies Ejecter. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of
single user licenses you desire for each program you wish to purchase (or
Site or Word-Wide licenses). Save or Copy or Print the data from the
Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi.

If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data
to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1
510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the
body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can
attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data
file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the
data to the Kagi fax number.

Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive
an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take
up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will
receive an email acknowledgement.

If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using
the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form,
which is:

              Kagi
              1442-A Walnut Street #392-QGT
              Berkeley, California 94709-1405
              USA

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at
present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi
cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD
checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical. If you
have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register
program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies
of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to
highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form
with their payment. Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on
my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your
end. Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or
Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no
technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the
payment, the form cannot be processed. Payments send via postal mail
take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if
you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form
is processed.

Subject: [*] Gerry's Mandelbrot Set v1.2 (Fractal image/movie generator)

Gerry's Mandelbrot Set is a powerful, yet easy to use fractal image
generator for the Power Macintosh with the Appearance Manager installed.
If you've got Navigation Services installed, it'll take advantage of it.
But it doesn't require it. It's also MacOS 8.5 savvy.

Don't let the name fool you. This application renders more than just the
Mandelbrot Set. It creates a variety of Fractals including:

Julia Sets, IFS images, a Fractal Tree, The Lorenz Attractor, the
Feignbaum Bifurcation diagram, The Newton's Method for finding the roots
of a polynomial fractal, and Martin's Mapping (A.K.A. Hopalong).

AND EVEN MORE THAN THAT, it creates QuickTime movies of any of the above
fractals (except the tree). You can change just about any parameters
over time! (common sense says certain ones can not change over time,
however)

This software is freeware, but if you plan on including it on a CD I'd
appreciate a copy. Or at least let me know you're distributing it.
Thanks!

Release notes for 2.4.3:

*	Documentation is now available online in HTML form. GIFConverter
will display it in your web browser. See Online Documentation in the Help
menu. The documentation has been updated to cover most of the 2.4 features.
*	There is a script in the Scripts menu for setting the desktop
picture on MacOS 8.5.
*	When using an open box, GIFConverter recognizes files by their
extensions and MacOS file types only. Use the GIFConverter AutoTyper
(included) to change file types. GIFConverter will try to identify by
examination any file that is dropped on it or given to it by an Apple
Event.
*	GIFConverter now recognizes its own slide show documents. It also
assumed that most other files were GIF files; this has been fixed.
*	GIFConverter is only available electronically; the diskette/manual
options have been removed from registration programs and order forms.
*	PICT files sometimes had black backgrounds when read into
GIFConverter; this has been fixed.
*	GIFConverter works around some system inconsistencies that caused
problems launching other applications.
*	The size property of an image is now the "dimensions". This
prevents a conflict with the size of a text character. GIFConverter will
work with old AppleScripts, but you may need to change them to use
"dimensions" if you recompile them.

*	The installer only requires System 7.0. It mistakenly required
System 7.1.2, because it was based on the PPC-only installer (how
embarassing!).
*	GIFConverter is no longer tested or supported on machines without
Color QuickDraw. It now requires 68020 or newer.
*	I have a new P.O. Box address. Mail from the old box will be picked
up for a time, then forwarded, and finally will stop working. I have no
idea yet how long the Postal Service will forward for.

Subject: [*] Grafyxx for the Macintosh v1.3

What's New in Grafyxx(TM) v1.3
Grafyxx v1.3 is fully compatible with both the iMac and System 8.5.

In addition to the abundant features in Grafyxx 1.2 and before, several
additional graphical file attributes are now displayed by version 1.3.
These include: Layers, Copyright, URL, and Updated Applescripting.

Grafyxx version 1.3 also correctly parses recent versions of popular
software, including:
* Adobe Photoshop 5.0
* Macromedia FreeHand 8.0 (generated EPS, not native)
* Adobe Illustrator 7.0 (native as well as EPS)

Grafyxx (formerly Pixx'r and Pixxler) is designed for prepress, BBS, and
WWW professionals who need to manage and organized supplied graphics.
Grafyxx "peeks" into graphic file types such as TIFF, EPS, PICT, GIF, JPEG,
and more, revealing their hidden attributes, including clipping paths,
transfer functions, size, color type, encoding, and much more.

Subject: [*] Guillotine 1.0b2

Guillotine is a drop box that "decapitates" those ugly all caps DOS-like
filenames. Just drop the offending files/folders on it, and the names will
become all lowercase with the first letter of each word capitalized.
Guillotine processes the complete contents of dropped folders. To make
filenames all caps or all lowercase, just choose the appropriate item on
the Options menu. Note: you may have to close and reopen the folder for the
new name(s) to appear in the Finder. (Mac OS 8 does not have this problem.)

Guillotine 1.0b2 changes:
* Added support for Navigation Services.
* Improved handling of contractions when capitalizing the first letter of
each word.

Subject: [*] Icon Archiver 4.0 - Powerful Icon Database for 8.5

The Icon Archiver is an extremely powerful database
specifically designed for easy icon storage and retrieval. It
can quickly scan whole disks or folders and grab all the icons
they contain, including those you won't ever see in the Finder
and all icon archives created by other icon utilities. It can
easily export them in most graphics formats, including the ones
you need for your web pages. Drag & Drop is fully supported, so
you can create or stick custom icons by simply dragging them
around. All icons are compressed on the fly to save memory and
disk space, and archives can contain a very large number of
icons (unlike all other icon utilities which are limited to a
few hundreds). Advanced features include removing duplicate
icons, sorting them by shape, filtering them by size or color
depth, and viewing them in many different ways. The Archiver
includes native PowerPC code and its icon handling routines are
highly optimized for maximum speed.

Even if you hate custom icons, you'll be fascinated by the
number of icons that come out of a typical shareware CD-ROM like
the ones that are bundled with many Mac magazines. No matter
what you use your Mac for, this is guaranteed to give you
countless hours of fun and entertainment as well as a much nicer
desktop.

New in version 4.0:

- Fully supports Mac OS 8.5.
- The file format has changed to make it even more efficient.
Icon Archiver archives are now smaller than StuffIt files.
- Supported icon types include 32-bit and 48x48 huge icons.
- Additional list views and options added for the new icons.
- Individual icon comments are now available.
- Icons can be sorted by identity (faster) or similarity.
- New commands include Trim To Selection, selective Add and
Remove Sizes, smart Picture Conversion options and more.
- Sorting icons now flags an archive as modified.
- Icon names are no longer truncated to 24 characters.
- The Archiver starts up much faster when AppleTalk is on.
- The ICO plugin correctly generates 16x16 and 48x48 icons.
- Many other improvements were made, including better error
reporting, smarter menu commands and more...

Subject: [*] LibraryCataloger1.1.0 tracks books and articles:

Library Cataloger is an application to help you keep track of your personal
library, and to help you create bibliographies for papers, reports, and
other documents which include references.

Library Cataloger requires system 7 or higher and both a PowerPC native and
a non-PowerPC application is included. Only approximately 2 MB of free
memory are required and approximately the same amount of hard disk space is
needed. No Floating-point unit is required.

This an application which I created to fill a need of my own. I
consistently find myself forgetting which papers I have photocopies of.
Also, just like everyone else who has to make bibliographies for papers, I
hate having to go through my papers to get all the information required to
complete the bibliographic entries. This application will help you keep
track of the books and papers you have, and it will help you make
bibliographies when you need them by exporting bibliographic data in plain
text or LaTex format.

Version 1.1 is a major upgrade to earlier versions. It has numerous bug
fixes which make it much more stable.

The user interface has been significantly redesigned to make it easier to
use. You may now store more information about a book or paper, you may now
add custom categories and types, and you can now also export to Rich Text
Format (RTF).

Subject: [*] LogEditor

LogEditor allows you to log your sound and video tapes creating a
FileMaker Pro database of transcripts and descriptions using the time code
or stop watch time of in and out points for each log. Once all the
information has been entered you can easily find any entry using keywords
for the locations, characters or the transcripts. This searching facility
is especially helpful when there is any time between logging and editing.

You can also do a "paper edit" based on an order you choose by number.
Using FileMaker's Sort function, just those records you have chosen for
the edit can be ordered and then printed out. You can also print the
entire log or a single record.

You can export the records to a text file that can then be imported into
a video editing program. Since LogEditor can be used on a portable
computer away from the editing studio, logging can be done anywhere and
the results can be easily transferred back at the studio.

Subject: [*] SwitchRes 1.5.1 - english version

SwitchRes is an extension that allows you to control the resolutions
of all your displays. A Control Panel is joined, which lets you change
its preferences, and a Control Strip Module and a Contextual Menu
extension are bundled. You can change all your resolutions with just
one mouse click on the Finder desktop, or just by pressing one key.

It also allows you to:
----------------------

* use *all* available resolutions of your video cards, not only those
the
  MacOS choose for you
* automatically switch resolution and color depth of all monitors when
launching an application, and restore your settings when quitting
* position the desktop icons where you want, at every resolution change
  and at startup
* configure the menus by choosing which resolutions and what bitdepths
will be displayed (Control Strip Module menu, Contextual Menu)

and a lot of other features...

SwitchRes requires MacOS 8, and a multisync monitor may be useful...
Of course, SwitchRes works fine under MacOS 8.5
It is distributed as a $9 shareware, but you can try the application
for 7 days.

What is new in version 1.5.1:
-----------------------------

Version 1.5.1 is essantially a bug-fixing version. It fixes the stupid
bug where using Navigation Services could crash the control panel with
a type-1 error. It also fixes a bug where the help menu of different
applications could suddenly disappear when using SwitchRes' icon menu.
Some games that were previously crahsing are now working (that includes
games that were relying on the error code returned by the Display
Manager).

As for the features, it now uses PowerPC native patches, for overall
speed; and adds support for proportional thumbbars in MacOS 8.5

What was new in version 1.5:
----------------------------

* All SwitchRes menus are definable independently: you can decide to
show the depths only in the Control Strip Module and the resolutions
only in the Contextual Menu, if you want
* SwitchRes can restore the display and sound settings when an
  application quits

Subject: [*] TrueKeys v3.2 release

TrueKeys is a Chinese, Japanese, Korean (CJK) 2-byte truetype font conversion
utilities. What makes it different from other truetype utilities such as
TTConvert 1.5 and TrueConvert 0.3b is that it generates its own cmap table for

truetype. This strategy corrects some common PC font problems such as no
Mac cmap
table support, etc. When TTConvert or TrueConvert does not work for your font,
you should seriously try TrueKeys. TrueKeys v3.2 is guarenteed to work with any
Mac format CJK truetypes and Windows format truetypes (including TTC format).

Subject: [*] Web Confidential 1.1r2J - Japanese version

This is the Japanese version of the Web Confidential package. This release
supersedes the Web Confidential 1.1J release.

"Web Confidential is easy to use, secure, and well-integrated"- Adam C.
Engst, TidBITS

For a review of Web Confidential by Adam C. Engst, read TidBITS 441

Where do you keep your confidential data?

Like most people these days, you've probably got a growing number of user
IDs, passwords, registration keys, PINs, serial numbers, and the like,
stored in various places on your Mac or scribbled on miscellaneous pieces of
paper around your home or office. When you stop and think about it, you
probably have more of these pesky bits of information scattered about than
you realize.

The proliferation of the Internet is exacerbating this situation. Increasing
numbers of commercially-oriented sites, such as the NY Times, require some
form of registration even simply to view content. Other transaction-oriented
sites, such as Amazon.com, or personalized newsites, such as My Yahoo,
require passwords for personal services.

Now there is a software program to manage passwords and the like: it is
called Web Confidential. It uses an intuitive, easy-to-use cardfile metaphor
which will enable even novice users to get up to speed in no time. Power
users will find a large number of options to enable them to configure Web
Confidential to meet their specific needs.

If you are an enthusiastic Web surfer, you will be especially impressed at
the tight integration Web Confidential offers with your favorite Internet
applications, such as Netscape Navigator, Explorer, Eudora and Emailer. Web
Confidential takes full advantage of the Mac operating system's outstanding
facilities, such as Interprogram Communication and Shared Menus, to make Web
Confidential work seamlessly with these programs.

For creating pages containing personal account information at commercial
sites, Web Confidential offers you the one-click convenience of its Password
Shared Menu, saving you from the bothersome chore of having to retype your
user ID and password each time you log in.

Last but not least, Web Confidential permits you to encrypt your password
files, protecting this sensitive information from prying eyes, using a
state-of-the-art encryption algorithm. Your key can be up to 448 bits in
length.
