Kaleidoscope 2.1.1 -- Shareware $25
by Greg Landweber and Arlo Rose

Now compatible with Mac OS 8.5!

Kaleidoscope is the ultimate in user interface customization, letting you
switch between completely different designs provided by plug-in files
called "Schemes". Kaleidoscope comes with eight schemes, including the Mac
OS 8, System 7, and Be OS interfaces, as well as five radically new designs
by Arlo Rose, formerly of Apple's Human Interface Design Center. There are
also several thousand third party schemes available on the Kaleidoscope
Scheme Archive and elsewhere.

Version 2.1.1 improves window drawing speed, and fixes truncated menus
under Mac OS 8.5. It also fixes problems with the Appearance and Internet
control panels, Sherlock, MiniCad, Eudora Pro 4.1, POV-Ray, Macromedia
Flash, DragStrip, MacSoup, ColorSwitch Pro, QuarkConnect, AlarmsClock, and
others. The included schemes have been updated, with better Finder icons in
"BeBox", improved windows in "System 7" and various minor tweaks.

I've been playing the game Magic: The Gathering=81 for several years now. I
finally decided that I wasn't very good at it. I played the actual game
well enough, but it always seemed that my decks were pretty weak.

So, I made the Book of Decks. Essentially it is a database of all of the
Magic: The Gathering=81 cards available. It also allows you to select from
these cards to assemble your own decks. As you assemble your decks the
software gives you feedback that helps you see your decks' weaknesses and
strengths. It will also give you suggestions to help you improve your
deck. It's a valuable tool. Please pay the rareware fee.

New modifications of those little BeOS people! Icons for your Mac.

Abstract:
I've loved the BeOS icons since I first laid eyes on them. But, gee, there
just weren't enough of those cool stylized little people, so I got an icon
editor and went to work on them. Dan's Be People, Vol. 1 was born.
Certainly more volumes of these little guys will come along and make life
happy for everyone.

Dan's Be People are freeware, you may use them for any personal
application. This precludes their usage in any sort of commercial venture
or endeavour that you or your company would profit from. If you need to
use them in such a manner, please contact me at:

Examples of profitable uses include: usage of the icons as graphics on your

serious about this.

Subject: [*] Extension Overload v3

What is Extension Overload v3 ?

Extension Overload is a "self-reading" document with lots of information
about all the system extensions and control panels that are littering the
System folder of every Macintosh. Extension Overload v3 cover all
Extensions and Control Panel from Mac OS 7, 7.5, 7.6, 8, 8.1,8.5 and iMac.
Extension Overload conviniently lists them by name and explains their
purpose. That way you (the user) can decide whether to keep a certain
control panel or extension or not. Additionally, Extension Overload
contains information about Mac error codes, Easter Eggs (little gimmicks
hidden somewhere in the software) and other useful things.

Currently Extension Overload reviews 666 extensions and 245 control panels
- of course this does not mean that all of them are in the system folder of
your Macintosh=8A ;-)

Why use Extension Overload ?

Control panels and extensions serve one purpose: They "extend" the
operation system of your Macintosh and provide additional functions to the
user and to programs running on your machine.

=46or example, the QuickTime=81 extension allows the Simple Text application=
 to
play movies, something that would be impossible otherwise. However, often
some control panels and extensions get installed which are not necessary
for a certain Mac model or application. (Obviously, if you don't have a
network, you don't need network software.)
On the downside, control panels and extensions eat up space on the harddisk
and in memory. Even worse, some extensions and control panels sometimes
conflict with each other, causing your Mac to crash. Installing too much
extensions and control panels will also slow down your computer. In these
situation Extension Overload helps you to find out, which items in yor
system folder you actually need and which ones you can safely remove to
keep your system small and efficient.

But even if you are just curious what all the items in the system folder
do, Extension Overload is for you.

Therefore, Extension Overload is useful if:

* you keep recovering from a crash.
*	you are trying to solve an extension conflict.
*	you want to make your system use as less RAM as possible.
*	you want to save disk space by deleting unnessecary files.
*	you want to know what all the items do.
*	you are an experienced user who just needs a handy reference.
* you want to learn your way around the machine.

Extension Overload can also be download at

Subject: [*] French_Placement_Test

We developed "French Placement Test" at Wheaton College
from a variety of sources, including one in use at Middlebury College.
It should run fine on any 68K or PPC Mac
with a color monitor and at least 8MB of RAM.

The goal of the test is to derive an estimate of each
student's knowledge of basic French grammar and
vocabulary, for comparative purposes. Since almost
nobody wants to be placed in a course that is too
advanced, security concerns are minimal.

Most of the test consists of fill-in-the-blank exercises.
The recorded dialogue on which the listening comprehension
questions are based is about one minute long, and that
accounts in part for the larger size of this file.

Test-takers are prompted to print their results at the
conclusion of the test.

We hope that you find this program helpful, or at least
amusing. Your comments, questions, bug reports, and
suggestions for improvement are welcomed: send them to

Subject: [*] Gerry's Attraction v1.3

This is an update to Gerry's Attraction. It fixes a problem where it
wouldn't run on systems earlier than MacOS 8.5.

Gerry's Attraction Displays the Lorenz or Rossler Attractors in 3D. You
can "fly" through and around the attractors using the same controls used
in popular 3D games like Marathon or Quake. And it can go into
full-screen mode if you have QuickTime installed. It looks really cool!

This application was inspired by Hiroki Mori's Lorenz Attractor for
BeOS. My version is more feature-packed and runs on the MacOS. It runs
at nearly the same speed as the BeOS version does.

This software is freeware, but if you plan on including it on a CD I'd

Subject: [*] Gerry's Mandelbrot Set v1.2

This is an update to Gerry's Attraction. It fixes a problem where it
wouldn't run on systems earlier than MacOS 8.5.

Gerry's Mandelbrot Set is a powerful, yet easy to use fractal image
generator for the Power Macintosh with the Appearance Manager installed.

Don't let the name fool you. This application renders more than just the
Mandelbrot Set. It creates a variety of Fractals including:

Julia Sets, IFS images, a Fractal Tree, The Lorenz Attractor, the
Feignbaum Bifurcation diagram, The Newton's Method for finding the roots
of a polynomial fractal, and Martin's Mapping (A.K.A. Hopalong).

AND EVEN MORE THAN THAT, it creates QuickTime movies of any of the above
fractals (except the tree). You can change just about any parameters
over time! (common sense says certain ones can not change over time,
however)

This software is freeware, but if you plan on including it on a CD I'd
appreciate a copy. Or at least let me know you're distributing it.
Thanks!

Subject: [*] Leonar33

a C Programming Environment for Reversible Execution and
    Software Visualization

HW/SW requirements:
    CPU: PPC only
    OS: MacOS 7.5 or later
Free RAM: at least 3 MB
Free HD space: at least 6 MB

Distribution:
The Leonardo package is free. It can be freely distributed in electronic
form on computer networks, on magnetic media or on CD-ROM, provided the
    "Read Me" file is included

Target directory:
   _Graphic_&_Sound_Tool (gst) or _Development (dev)

Text blurb:

Leonardo is an integrated environment for the development and the animation
of C programs. It includes in the same executable file:

- a text editor with syntax coloring
- a compiler for the ANSI C language (with some restrictions
  on the available standard libraries)
- a reversible virtual CPU
- a simple operating system for process, I/O and memory management
- an integrated knowledge-based visualization system
- a simple graph editor

Here are Leonardo's main peculiarities:

- it allows you to edit, compile and execute large and complex C programs
  on the virtual CPU.
- It's a multitasking environment.
- Programs can be executed both forwards and backwards: it is possible to
reverse the execution of a program at any time by means of a VCR-style
  control tool.
- programs can be animated by embedding in the C source special declarations
written in a simple logic programming language called Alpha.
- Leonardo comes with many built-in animations: the "Programs" menu offers
to you a repository of examples ranging from classical algorithms to games
such as Tetris and Checkers and some demos showing Leonardo's graphic
  capabilities.
