Brickles Deluxe v1.2 Released!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, December 13, 1998: Ken Winograd and
Space-Time Associates announced today the release of version 1.2
of a fun, exciting Macintosh shareware game called Brickles Deluxe.

Brickles Deluxe is an all-new game based on the game of Brickles
and Brickles Plus, first offered in 1985, shortly after the
introduction of the first Macintosh.

Brickles Deluxe is not your typical "ball and paddle" game. No way!
Brickles Deluxe features adjustable colors and patterns, adjustable
ball and paddle sizes, and adjustable speed. Even the number of
paddles in the game can be changed. Brickles Deluxe is suitable for
everyone from the very youngest children learning to use a mouse,
to fast-paced arcade fans. And, wait 'til you hear the new sounds!
If you've ever played and enjoyed Brickles or Brickles Plus, you're
just going to love Brickles Deluxe!

Brickles Deluxe requires a Macintosh with 256 colors or more.

Brickles Deluxe is available now. For more information, or to download
the program itself, please visit the Brickles Deluxe web
page at:

CDFinder 2.6

CDFinder is a very fast and powerful tool to create catalog files of your hard
disks, floppies, ZIP's and anything else that spins. It has a great user
interface and very useful search functions. CDFinder supports drag&drop and
requires at least a 68020 or PowerPC CPU. While System 7 is required, CDFinder
is also fully compatible to MacOS 8.5. A special feature is the multi-lingual
user
interface (German/French/English/Italian/Swedish).

New features in CDFinder 2.6:
- Catalog files of Disk Wizard and Iomega FindIt can be imported.
- Catalog windows now can use Finder desktop icons for a much better display.
- Catalog files can be arranged in a hierarchy of folders.
- Some small bug fixes.

The new version is free for all registered owners of CDFinder
and can also be obtained from the CDFinder-Homepage
<http://people.frankfurt.netsurf.de/nmd/>.
A single user license is $15, multi user licenses are available.

You may distribute that file on shareware CDROMs.

Thank you very much!

Subject: [*] data-rescue-211-fat-j.sit

Data Rescue is a tool for recovering lost Macintosh volumes. It recovers files
and folders from crashed hard disks, floppy disks, or removable cartridges.
Recovered data are saved to another medium, leaving the original disk untouched.
The main interest in Data Rescue is that the strategy for finding lost files is
original, different from the strategies used by other tools like 'Norton
Utilities'. Not only will it find your data in situations where the other tools
fail, but it will recover them in a much better condition, restoring icons,
dates
and even folder hierarchy. The shareware fee for Data Rescue is $39. Until you
register your copy with a personnal code, you can only recover 1 file per
session. This allows you to test Data Rescue and check that it helps you in your
particular situation. Works on all Macs, needs System 7 or better. Compatible
with MacOS 8.5 and HFS+. Can be distributed freely for non-profit purposes
in the
form of this archive. Documentation included, updates at

Hang2000 v1.2 Released!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, December 13, 1998: Ken Winograd and
Space-Time Associates announced today the release of version 1.2
of a fun Macintosh shareware game called Hang2000. Hang2000 is
a new take on the classic hangman word guessing game we
all played when we were kids. It features colorful,
non-violent graphics, digitized sounds, synthesized speech,
dozens of built-in word categories, thousands of words,
unlimited lists of your own words, and much more.

Hang2000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun,
but you can't help learning. Included in Hang2000 is a
new "knowledge area". This area will include
information associated with the guessed word or phrase.
If the word chosen is from the States or Countries
category, for example, the knowledge area will show the
capital of the State or Country. If the category is Authors
or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts about, or
famous works of, the author or composer. Of course, you can
also make your own lists (unlimited in number) and include
your own associated information.

There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include
something for everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to
Star Trek and Television Shows, from Animals and Birds
to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables to
Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to
Opera and Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!

Hang2000 requires a Macintosh that supports 256 colors

In this hilarious novelty game, you're a deer. Your woods are full of

hunter, shoot him with your deerRifle, a weapon specially adapted to
accomodate your lack of opposable thumbs. Note: the deerRifle shoots a
harmless tranquilizer that will incapacitate the hunter so that you can
then tie him to the hood of his own pickup truck.

HunterDeer is freeware, and the most important requirement is a sense of

Subject: [*] programswitcher4.5.2j.sit

Program Switcher is an easy-to-use control panel that gives your Macintosh
the ability to switch between running applications from the keyboard. This
functionality is similar to Windows "alt-tab" feature, but it has been
improved upon.

Features of Program Switcher include:

*User configurable switching keys.
*Seven different switching themes, including two that tell you how much RAM
is being used. The appearance of each theme is user configurable, allowing
countless "looks" for Program Switcher.
*Quit and hide specific applications just by pressing a few keys.
*Program Switcher is MacOS 8 and Kaleidoscope savvy! An option enables
Program Switcher's switching window to honor the current color scheme as
provided by either MacOS 8's Appearance Manager or Kaleidoscope.
*Support for MacOS 8's Contextual Menus.
*Supports MacOS 8.5's theme sounds and new icons.
*Converts your function keys into Power Keys! Many useful functions
including "Quit all applications but Finder" and "Switch to Finder and hide
other applications."
*Plus many, many more options and features..

Program Switcher MacOS 8.5 Support

MacOS 8.5 introduces a new system level applicaiton switcher that provides
the user with minimal keyboard-based applicaiton switching. While
functional, this new MacOS feature does not replace all of the features
available in Program Switcher. Users will still want to use Program
Switcher instead of the new MacOS application switcher. However, the new
MacOS application switcher interferes with Program Switcher when the user
has Program Switchers keys set to command-tab. Enclosed in the Program
Switcher archive you will find a script that can shut off the new MacOS
application switcher so that it does not interfere with Program Switcher.

The script, titled "Toggle MacOS 8.5 App Switcher", will toggle to current
setting for the MacOS application switcher. If the MacOS application
switcher is on, running the script will shut it off (and vice versa).

Subject: [*] SuperReplace 2.0.3; a text conversion utility

Announcing the release of SuperReplace 2.0.3 !
SuperReplace is a powerful text conversion utility.

[What's it?] SuperReplace is a powerful application for
creating text conversion utility, called "Filter". To use
filter to do the conversion, just drag and drop input text
files onto the filter icon under Finder. The syntax of filter
is very easy to understand.

[Easy to use] Using a bi-style editor, it doesn't use any
special character unlike classical system. You can
write " \ CR and TAB directly in your filter.
An assistant helps you to edit filter. Non programmers as
well as programmers can use it very easily.

[Powerful] Very fast. Replace strings. Search regular
expression(pattern). Insert variables in the output text
files. Preferences for selecting input files.

[Examples] SuperReplace can be used for reformating HTML file.
You have saved a web page from Netscape as TEXT or as
HTML, but you don't like the file format: The accents are
missing for french accent letters, the format isn't compatible
with your database or your text editor, you need to extract
only a few lines, or any PC/Mac/Unix file format problem,
multi-columns problem, tabulation and space problems...

[What's New?]
- Fixed a bug in sub-filter when the new-string is empty.
- Better output setting pane.
- Open filter more easily. Double-click the filter, then press the Edit button.
- Fixed many redraw, scroll and undo problems in editor.
- Fixed the "cann't open filter" bug.
- More fast for big filter with WorldScript II installed.

Discovering new and uninhabited terrain for commercial development? Who
really cares?

Apparently, some people do. Scientists have located a mysterious portal in
the depths of an abandoned mine. One had ventured in, then rushed back out
a few minutes later dazed and babbling.

At a local hospital several hours later, the scientist mumbled something
about Nazis.

Nazis? That's your department.

You are B.J. Blazkowicz, spy extraordinare and Nazi blaster for hire. Well,
guess what? You've just been hired.

Unfortunately, your assignment included no specifics. Your superiors told
you to "get in there, blow up what's inside and get out." But what's
inside?

A large amount of explosives was detected in there. There must be some way
to trigger them, so the object must be to throw some switches. That's easy.
Unfortunately, the Nazis must be in there, along with....?

Subject: [*] Ultimate Blackjack

Ultimate Blackjack is designed to provide the feel of a gambling casino
with realistic card dealing at a table with six players whose chips move
across the table when hands are won or lost. The user can learn to play
Blackjack better, by having a hint window displayed if an incorrect play
is made, or having the program deal only specific types of hands, like
pairs or soft hands, so these can be practiced directly. Card counting
can also be practiced.

Going beyond the standard casino games, Ultimate Blackjack can show how
much money a particular strategy will win (or lose) in Las Vegas, and
even draws a histogram showing the distribution of outcomes. The
statistical package tracks the payoff on each card combination to
understand the best play. You can even experiment with two artificial
intelligence routines, the genetic algorithm and learning agents, to see
if a computer can learn to play Blackjack. Good Luck!

Ultimate Blackjack is shareware with a fee of $10 and includes a 46 page
manual. Version 2.1 allows a larger game window to be displayed to match
the monitor size. Also, the wagering techniques available for simulating
now include card counting and hot streaks. In addition, more variations
on casino rules have been added and the genetic algorithm has been
improved.

Subject: [*] Verbs & Nouns 2.2.7 - foreign language learning

Here is the new version of the 'Verbs & Nouns' application - 2.2.7

'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; and to do
exercises based on sound or pictures.

The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that
the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a
module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used
as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for
any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition
of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as
bilingual dictionaries.

This is a bug fix release of Word Search which fixes the following bugs in
Version 2.2.0

Fixed bug which caused the "Export as PICT" window to be a blank window.

Fixed bug which caused Navigation Services to be unavailable in OS 8 and
above.

Have also included a new help system which uses Apple's new Help Viewer
available in OS 8.5 and above.

What is Word Search?

It is a program which allows the generation of word searches in sizes from 8
x 8 up to 32 x 32 square and searches in user defined (via ResEdit) shapes
on a 32 x 32 matrix.

Words may be entered at the keyboard or imported from any text file

Searches can be printed directly from the program or exported as ascii text
or in PICT format for further processing in another application.

Detailed cheat sheets can be printed.

A unique feature of the program is it's ability to generate and print
multiple searches, each one different, from the same set of words.

I don't think its peculiar to system 8.5. I have system 8.1 and Netscape

page and then hangs for 5-10 seconds before displaying it. I also tried
Communicator 4.5 and it does the same thing. I wrote in to InfoMac about 1
month ago and got no replies. It has to be a conflict with something in the
system folder but I never bothered to really diagnose it. Maybe OT/PPP or a
library file accessed by OT/PPP. Did you upgrade to OT/PPP 2.0? I think it
comes with the 8.5.1 system upgrade.
