Subject: [*] aeaea-11

AEAEA-11.hqx is an algorithmic stand-alone music application, it plays
lush music and cycles mystic pictures of Circe's island, Aeaea (Malta),
where Odysseus' sailors were enchanted. Can be used as an artistic-mystic
background while you chill out.
YOU NEED: Apple's Quicktime (2.5) and Sound Manager, System 7.+
DETAILS: AEAEA-11 was realized on a Mac 8500 PPC (system 7.5.5, QT 2.5)
using Opcode System's MAX 3.0. program. Virus checked.Compressed with
Stuffit Lite.
AVAILABILITY: AEAEA-11 is free to individuals for their private
enjoyment. Distribution by CD Rom and other means: OK, please notify by
e-mail.

**************** *****************
***********
QuickStart: Double-click on the Aeaea.11.app in the Program Folder.
Hit the SPACE BAR to start and stop. The music plays on the Mac's internal
speakers. If possible, hook your computer's audio output into your HiFi
system.

Do not remove the AEAEA-11.app from its folder; it is an APPLICATION, so
close by opening the Apple control bar File menu and selecting "QUIT".

Notes: According to Homer's epic, The Odyessy, when Odysseus (Ulyssus) and
his men reached the mysterious island of Aeaea, they were enchanted by the
sorceress Circe. Malta, a small 15-by-17 mile island off the coast of
Sicily in the Med. seems to be the likely place for this encounter. Homer's
description of the landing in a fair bay (St. Paul's bay) and the
promentory from which a temple in the middle of the island was seen all
seem to reinforce this idea. Also important is the discovery of Minoan- era
temple ruins with bull figures and oracle whispering holes. Malta has a
long history of occupation by many cultures: Romans, Arabs, The Knights of
St. John, Napoleon, the English etc. Although totally Catholic in religion,
they speak an Arabic-based language which is written using the Roman
alphabet. Malta became an independent nation shortly after WW II and the
entire island was given the George Cross for its valiant role during that
struggle (hence the initials after the name: Malta, G.C.) I spent 6 weeks
n Malta during the summer of 1972 (mainly in the small fishing village of
Marsasloxx) and took many slides and pictures of the curious landscapes,
churches and bells. All the time I was there - and ever as I remember or
dream of it - Malta was a rich, exciting enchanted island full of wonderful
loving people to whom a smile, a joke and a drink with one's companions
were the best things in life. However, their way of life and sense of time
was very different. Most people seemed to get up very early and go to bed
shortly after sunset. Malta, a very densely populated island, seemed
totally deserted by late afternoon just when the sun was so right for
taking pictures, and so many of my color slides were landscapes without
people in them.

I am providing the format decoding/encoding chart from the Mac-FTP-list as
an aid for those who only want to know 'Which program will unmangle/uncompress
this format?' Unlike the Mac-FTP-list this will be updated only as needed.

All the text in the this document must be in a monospaced font such as

correctly. Since to be readable on-line this file is in ASCII UNIX it
is recommended that something like TexEdit+ or a web browser be used to

Subject: [*] Keep It Up 2.1

Keep It Up version 2.1

What does it do ?

A. Keep your (server) applications running

Keep It Up (KIU) can relaunch selected applications if for some reason they
stop running (crashes, accidental quits,...) KIU can also restart your Mac
on a regular basis. This reduces the chance of anything going wrong in the
first place. KIU can also be told the keep one (server) application always
in front, which improves the performance of this application.

B. Remote Management

KIU can be used to remotely manage your Macintosh (server) using any
webbrowser. KIU has a tiny "embedded" webserver (running on a port of your
choice) that allows you to remotely:
*  restart/shutdown the Mac
* view, kill or restart running applications
*  launch applications
*  run Applescripts
* view logfiles generated by KIU or other applications
* get some info about the system (free disk space, uptime, ...)

The web interface approach has several advantages over remote management
solutions such as "Timbuktu Pro": you can manage the Mac from *any*
computer that has a webbrowser installed (Mac, PC, PDA, ...), it's small
and fast, doesn't slow down your Mac and is unlikely to cause conflicts
with other software.

KIU is $22 shareware.
Version 2.1 adds the possibility to remotely view logfiles.

Version Finder is a Mac OS Application that keeps track of the current
version numbers of all your Applications, Extensions, Control Panels,
Drivers, etc. on your hard disk. You can quickly determine which version
of a program you have by consulting Version Finder. If you have internet
access and a web browser, you can use Version Finder to help search

menus work like the Apple menu: Each menu has a corresponding folder and
the menu
automatically reflects the folder's content.

The menu name can be replaced by a custom icon, to get a nice layout or to save
room in the menu bar and add more menus.

Version 2.0.3 fixes some cosmetic problems related to MacOS 8.5.

A complete description of changes is available at
<http://www.integra.fr/bw/aliasmenuhisto-us.html>.

The new version can be downloaded from
<http://www.integra.fr/bw/aliasmenu-us.html>.

AliasMenu 2 features:

* Menus are present in all opened applications.

* The number of menus is unlimited.

* Menus can be added after the application's menus, or inserted before.

* Keyboard shortcuts are always active and can use any modifier key.

* Ordering menus and items is easy. Separators can be inserted and removed
on the fly.

* Items of any kind can be put into a menu: folders, applications,
documents, servers, scripts, and URLs. Use AliasMenu to create several
cross-application bookmarks menus, always available.

* Multiple launching: launch several items with a single keystroke or menu
command.

* Automatic text typing: put a text clipping in a menu to 'type' its text
in any application.

* AliasMenu can trigger FKeys from separate files, allowing the use of an
unlimited number of FKeys with user-defined key shortcuts.

AliasMenu is a $25 shareware. Secure online registration through Kagi is
available. Encrypted e-mail registration and other methods are available

I Ching Connexion 2.3.3

The I Ching Connexion is an ever-changing but always consistently
interlocking
graphic representation of the way the 64 hexagrams interrelate.
As such it is the key to widen and deepen the interpretation of the
outcome of
a divination.

It features the translation James Legge made (published in 1882, England)
of
the Imperial Edition of the I (published in 1715, China). This alone
makes the
program useful for anyone interested in the I Ching.
Besides that it adds two radical new views to the ancient Book of
Changes:
the Connexion and the Mediator.
It also features an I Ching clock, a presentation of the link between the
I Ching and astrology. And it allows you to calculate your natal hexagram.

The I Ching Connexion requires a Macintosh with System 7.0 or later,
32-bit Color Quickdraw and at least 256 colors or grays.
It's optimized for both PowerPC and 680x0 Macs (FAT application).

This software is distributed as shareware (save/print disabled).
Please read 'I Ching Connexion Read Me' for a bit more introductory info,
and 'How to Register ICC' for instructions on how to register.

Changes since v2.3.2:
- Text additions and corrections.
- Hyperlink additions and corrections.
- "Hexagram Meaning" window is now resizable.
- Added black & white hexagon color (for grayscale printing).

IconDropper - Version 3.2.1 - January 1999

IconDropper allows users to customize their Mac's icons on-the-fly
through the use of Drag-n-Drop technology. Instead of having to copy and
paste custom icons from tons of folders on your hard drive, IconDropper
stores all icons in custom designed sets called "packs". A single click
is required to update any folder's icon and see the results in real time.
IconDropper (and its sister apps, IconPacker and IconDragger) let the
user design and embed custom banners and background colors into the packs
when saved. Packs can then be e-mailed to friends or distributed on the
Internet. For more information about this exciting new piece of Macintosh
shareware, or to download some cool looking icon packs, please visit us
at: <http://www.iconfactory.com>

Release 3.2.1 of IconDropper includes support for 32-bit custom icons in
Mac OS 8.5 while still being compatible with older versions of the OS.
There are also many user interface updates and a bug fix for users on Mac
OS 8.5.

We've also updated our web site with 32-bit icons, so please drop by

IconDropper is available from Info-Mac as:

Mortgage Simulator lets you prepare a home budget to help you save money
and take out a mortgage.

First, there is a window where household spending details are entered for
annual, quarterly, monthly, fortnightly, and weekly expenses.

Next, the amount of savings available to put toward a mortgage is
calculated. Then, a window where all the upfront costs involved in
purchasing a home are entered--this enables the user to know how much money
is needed in order to purchase a home.

Finally, you can enter mortgage details (principal, interest rate,
repayments, account fees, and so on) and compare different mortgage options
to find the most competitive one on the market. You also can create
different scenarios involving specific changes over time to the mortgage
rates according to salary and interest rate fluctuations.

About QuickTrash...
QuickTrash enables you to move a file, a set of files, a folder or a set
of folders to Trash Folder with a point-and-click while your other hand
is holding down a specific key combination to enable the feature. It is
great when you have lots of files to remove and they are scattered all
over or you have many windows opened so that you can't dig out the Trash
to dump the files.

How to install...
QuickTrash is an INIT program that goes into Extension Folder of your
Macintosh. After download, decode '.hqx' file, unstuff '.sit' file, then
you will have a folder containing the program and other information.
Move QuickTrash to your System Folder and click okay to move it into the
Extension Folder. Restart your computer.

How to operate...
When you are on Finder, press down Option Key with Command Key. The
arrow cursor should be changed to something else. Click with a mouse on
the file you want to delete. If the cursor is not changed with the key
combination or the file doesn't move to Trash when it clicked, maybe
your machine is not configured to work with this version. Check the
requirement again...
To remove a set of files or folders, while QuickTrash is
activated(combo-key), select files as you would do normally when you are
in the finder(hold-click-n-drag).

Requirements...
This version is NO FAT which is only designed to work for PowerPC
Macintosh, and only tested for MacOS 8.1 and MacOS 8.5.
- PowerPC Macintosh
- MacOS 8.0 or higher

Shareware...

Subject: [*] SwitchRes 1.5.3 - English version

SwitchRes is an extension that allows you to control the resolutions
of all your displays. A Control Panel is joined, which lets you change
its preferences, and a Control Strip Module and a Contextual Menu
extension are bundled. You can change all your resolutions with just
one mouse click on the Finder desktop, or just by pressing one key.

It also allows you to:
----------------------

* use *all* available resolutions of your video cards, not only those
  the MacOS choose for you
* automatically switch resolution and color depth of all monitors when
launching an application, and restore your settings when quitting
* position the desktop icons where you want, at every resolution change
  and at startup
* configure the menus by choosing which resolutions and what bitdepths
will be displayed (Control Strip Module menu, Contextual Menu)

and a lot of other features...

SwitchRes requires MacOS 8, and a multisync monitor may be useful...
Of course, SwitchRes works fine under MacOS 8.5
It is distributed as a $9 shareware, but you can try the application
for 7 days.

What is new in version 1.5.3:
-----------------------------

Lots of bugs of version 1.5.2 have been corrected:

* Scrollbars are now really proportional under MacOS 8.5
* "Apply" and "Revert" buttons are correctly shown when some
  preferences were modified
* Now doesn't change the resolution any more when the settings are
  already correct
* Control Strip Module doesn=D5t say any more that "You are using two
different and incompatible versions of SwitchRes"
* Correctly changes the bitdepth if the automatic icons saving is
  turned on
* There are no more "0 x 0, 0 Hz" resolution shown on the NuBus
  Macintoshes
* Icons saving works again under MacOS 8.0 and 8.1
* Corrects a crashing problem that could occur sometimes when
  displaying some alerts

* Includes the Setup Wizard for a correct and easy configuration of
your monitors. Particularily useful when you plug your Mac on a new
monitor and you quickly need to know which resolutions can behandled.
