Subject: [*] Smart Scroll 3.6b6J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Smart Scroll package.

Smart Scroll enhances scrollbars for most apps, including Netscape,
Emailer, Eudora, ClarisWorks... (Mac OS 8.5, 8.6, & 9.0) only enhance the
Finder's scrollbars)

Proportional Thumbs: The size of the thumb relative to the scrollbar
shows how much of a document is displayed in a window!

Live Scrolling moves the window contents while you drag the thumb. Power
up your scroll bars!

Scrolling Speed may now be adjusted for all scroll bars and menus!

*New!* Scrolling Speed may be adjusted to your preference. If your
windows are too fast for your taste, this will let you set a comfortable
scrolling speed. The setting is applied whenever you click in a
scrollbar and hold the button down, but full speed is available at any
time by clicking repeatedly instead.
*New!* This feature controls Menu Scrolling too! Keep the cursor pinned
to the edge of the screen (above or below the menu) for full speed, or
bring it in a few pixels to slow down the scrolling to the rate selected
in the Smart Scroll control panel.

This control panel works on any Mac introduced since 1990, running
System 7.0 through Mac OS 9.0.

New in version 3.6:

*Scrolling Speed may now be adjusted for all scrollbars, as well as menus
*Support for Mac OS 9.0
*Many internal changes and fixes

Mac OS 8.5 and later provide applications with the possibility of
displaying proportional thumbs, but applications will need to be updated
to take advantage of the new feature. Among applications included with
Mac OS, so far only the Finder and a couple others uses this feature.
Smart Scroll provides proportional thumbs for "the rest of apps" today,
without updating applications applications such as Netscape, Emailer,
AppleWorks, Word or system add-ons such as control panels!

Smart Scroll communicates with Kaleidoscope so scrollbars using the new
color schemes can be proportional and have active scrolling!

Itivuttaka--Sayings of the Buddha

The Itivuttaka is a collection of 112 short sutras from the Pali Canon in
mixed prose and verse, covering a wide range of the Buddha's teachings in
a form that is accessible, appealing, and concise. This application
randomly generates one of the verses each time it is opened, making it a
nice addition to the Startup Items folder. Additionally, clicking on the
quotation will generate a new verse. The verses can be saved as text
files, and printed from the "File" menu. If you encounter any unfamiliar
terms, there is a "Useful Definitions" item under the Apple Menu.

This application is offered as a free gift of Dharma.

May all beings attain Perfect Peace.

KanjiCPreProcessor:
Japanese Shift-JIS C/C++/Rez pre-processor - free source code

KanjiCPreProcessor.c is the source code of a basic filter for C, C++, and
Rez source files, which strips all the comments, and replaces in strings
all the
Shift-JIS double-byte characters whose second byte happens to be a
backslash with their equivalent octal escape sequences, so that the source
files can be successfully compiled even when the compiler is not truly
multibyte-savvy, or when the Japanese script is not supported by the system
the compiler is running on...

Note: This code has been successfully compiled with CodeWarrior Discovery
Programming Edition 4, using the following project stationery:

Subject: [*] Polish Adjectives 1.0.3 - foreign language learning

'Polish Adjectives' helps Macintosh users to learn and practise declension
and comparison of adjectives. You can use it for looking words up and
practising vocabulary. The module already contains more than 9,000 Polish
adjectives, with English translations (partially). You can add extra
adjectives, and change or delete the existing entries to suit your own
needs. You can create special groups of adjectives for practising on
(ready made groups include colors, shapes, and much more). The unregistered
version has limitations. To use the module you need to have the parent
program 'Verbs & Nouns' available from the Info-Mac mirror sites.

What popped my o-rings was that in some of the stores the iMacs were=20
used as chic props in the displays. Not as computers, mind you, but=20
as trendy objets d'art, suspended at odd angles to highlight other=20

Now doesn't that just encapsulate the genius of Apple's=20

Subject: iMovie problem

I have a new iMac SE with iMovie. I had this problem with version 1.0 and
now with 1.0.1.

If I am capturing DV that includes the sounds of a water fall, or waves
crashing the sound gets clipped and distorted both on the iMac and when I
Print to Video.

This occurs with at least two different scenes on two different mini-dv
tapes.

I have tested the following:

Loaded iMovie onto my G4 tower with the same sound clipping and distortion.
This shows the iMac is not at fault.

Using Final Cut Pro 1.0.1 on the G4 give perfect sound quality. This is
important because it shows the camcorder and the firewire cable are not at
fault.

Has anyone seen this? I am also trying to get through to Apple since this
should be covered in the 90-day tech support.

Actually, there is a way in the find-file dialogue box of finding files
with an invisible attribute. I am still using 7.5.x, so I am not sure if
it still works with Sherlock, but the method is to hold down the option
key while selecting other things to look for. You will get more choices,
one of which is the visibility attribute. Check invisible and it will give
you all the invisible files on the volume, etc.

hi!

all of the sudden my good old trusty powerbook 100
refuses to boot and presents a Sad Mac error:
0000000F
00000002

has anybody any idea what this means?

more information:
troubles began, as saving onto the internal drive gave
me i/o errors (error -36)
i then connected the pb100 to my desktop (660av)
backuped the drive's contents
reformattet the pb100 drive
copied all files from the backup to it
then, suddenly the pb100 refused to boot with the above sadmac error

booting from an external floppy does not work (same sadmac error)

connecting the pb100 to the desktop still works
which would indicate that the harddrive itself seems to be o.k.

since then i've tried to find & understand the Sad Mac error codes
but with no real success
i.e.: most lists quote "0000000F" as "reserved for macintosh compatibility"
whatever this is supposed to mean...

TIA for any help

cheers,

Subject: USB-Serial adapter for G4 & HP LaserJet4MP

Hello,

We have a G4 running OS 8.6 and an old HP LaserJet
4MP.

We bought an Entraga USB-serial adapter but found out
that didn't support Geoport, Midi or AppleTalk
(LocalTalk) networking. Our printer didn't work.

The Keyspan US-serial adapters don't support HP
laserjets.

With our old mac, we were able to plug in the PC and
the mac and the printer was peacefully shared.

Now we can only print from the PC. Our PC "friends"
are laughing.

Does any one know what we need to do to make our HP
laserjet 4MP print?

Thank you.

It is easy to install icons. First select and copy the icon you want to
install. Then, do a getinfo of the file you want to install the icon onto.
Then select the icon in the upper left, and paste.

Be aware that "custom" icons do not have all the properties of the originals,
at least without a bit of resedit support.

And icons cannot be of arbitrary size...
