Subject: [*] Power Windows 2.2

Power Windows 2.2 (24 January 2000)
by Greg Landweber, coauthor of Kaleidoscope

Power Windows is a control panel that lets you drag entire windows
instead of just dotted outlines. It offers both solid and translucent
window dragging, and it is the only such utility to support the
Finder's popup windows (aka tabbed windows or drawers) introduced in
Mac OS 8.

Version 2.2 now offers an option to replace the standard zoom
rectangle animation with an extremely cool effect where Finder
windows gradually fade in and out when you open and close them. Also,
windows should drag slightly more smoothly when you use solid
dragging with multitasking turned on.

Power Windows is shareware, with a registration fee of $10.

mask layer and more than 60 effects and tools.
It's shareware and the fee is 20 US. Dollars.

REQUIREMENTS

Colors: Thousands (15bits) or millions (24bits).
10+ MB of free hard disk space.

*Using a selection not made in the 'normal' (click up-left, release
down-right) way could result in various problems.
*Trying to bring up a settings dialog for the picture tools 'Pick Color'
or 'Square Selection', resulted in a minor display error.
*Quitting or changing studios while displaying a dialog would make the
dialog window display content #1 when returning.
*Viewing a picture in fullscreen mode in 15bit color (thousands), crashed
the program.
*The brief info/coordinates in the 'Realtime Zoom' displayed line two a
pixel too far to the right.
*The selection occasionally had some display related problems.
*The brief info/coordinates in the 'Realtime Zoom' could display a space
first on the second line, after wrapping.
*In some very rare cases the mouse pointer would leave traces on the
screen.
*The picture tools 'Scroll Layer' and 'Square Selection' could be

Subject: [*] Style 1.6.1; a scriptable styled text editor

Style is a scriptable text editor for the Macintosh that
picks up where SimpleText leaves off, adding some powerful
formatting capabilities that make it an ideal mini-word
processor. Style handles formatted text, in which each
character can have its own font, size, style and color, and
each paragraph can have its own alignment, line spacing and
margins. It also lets you embed pictures and sounds within
the text. Unlike SimpleText, Style documents aren't limited
to 32K but only to available memory.

Features include:

 * Outstanding AppleScript support.
 * Built-in hierarchical Script menu.
 * XTND technology to import and export documents in
   several different formats.
 * Ability to create stand-alone, "AutoViewer" documents.
 * Drag-and-drop text editing with translucent drags.
 * Unlimited multiple undo/redo.
 * Word Services support for interfacing to spell checkers.
 * A rich set of sample scripts, including one for creating
UTF-8 (Unicode) encoded, multi-lingual web pages.

New in version 1.6.1:

 * Simple Internet Version Control (SIVC).
 * Support for reading and writing Unicode text files.
 * A bunch of bug fixes and minor enhancements.

Minimum System Requirements: System 7.1.
Style is distributed as shareware (US$10) through Kagi.

Subject: [*] SwitchRes 2.3.1J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the SwitchRes package.

Rated 5 Cows (highest rating) by Tucows: http://www.tucows.com

SwitchRes is a little utility that will allow you to switch the
resolution of all your monitors. You can access to all the resolutions
of all your displays in a simple, customizable menu. SwitchRes
incorporates features from the Monitor Resolution, Monitor BitDepth, and
Video Mirroring Control Strip Modules bundled with your system. You can
use its menu in the Menu Bar, use its provided Control Strip Module, or
click on the Finder Desktop with its Contextual Menu Plugin.

SwitchRes has an extensive list of features:

*You can show and use all available resolutions of your video card,
not just those limited by your monitor. For example, 20 video modes
are available on my PowerMac 7300 internal video board. Enjoy your
Apple 15" monitor in 1024 x 768, or 640 x 480 in 120Hz !
*SwitchRes is totally configurable. You can define which resolutions
are really accessible, and which will require a confirmation.
*You can also create display sets which will allow you to change the
resolution and the depth of all your monitors with just one mouse
click, or just one key. With this new version, you can add scripts to
display sets. That gives SwitchRes the ability to launch a script with
just one key, or when an application is launched...
*You can save the position of the icons on your desktop, independently
from one resolution to the other, unlike the Finder. The position of
the icons is restored at startup.
*You can assign a specific set to an application, so that every time
you use this application, your Mac will automatically switch to your
predefined resolutions. You will find this extremely useful for most
games.
*You can script SwitchRes for resolutions and color depth changes.
SwitchRes is even recordable: When SwitchRes is running, every
resolution change is automatically recorded in the script editor

System's Twilight: An Abstract Fairy Tale
   Version 1.1.0 (freeware)
   http://www.eblong.com/zarf/twilight.html

This game is a story and a puzzle. The story is made up of several
parts, not all of which may be obvious. The puzzle is made up of many
puzzles, some of which aren't obvious at all.
That's all I'll tell you. The rest you get to figure out yourself.
Have fun.
Puzzle-game enthusiasts will notice that this game is in the style of
Cliff Johnson's classic puzzle games, "3 in Three" and "The Fool's
Errand". However, be assured that the story and all the puzzles are
original. In fact, as far as I know, all twelve *kinds* of puzzles are
original. The interface is a step forward as well, allowing full
control over your character's movement and the ability to pick up and
carry objects.

It is compatible with System 6.0.7 or System 7 or later, any Macintosh
or Power Mac, and can be played on monochrome, 16-color, or 256-color
displays. It requires only 1 meg of free memory. Complete help about
the interface is available under the Help/Balloon menu (or, under
System 6, the Apple menu.)

I do not give out hints on the puzzles, because I hate to spoil other
people's fun. If you want help, you may have some luck asking on the
Usenet group comp.sys.mac.games.adventure, or on other on-line games
forums.

System's Twilight is freeware. (Previous versions were shareware,
but as of January 2000, you can play the entire game for free. This
version of the game no longer asks for registration codes.)

This program is copyright 1993-2000 by Andrew Plotkin. Anyone may copy
or distribute it freely, as long as no money is charged for it. This
program may not be sold or included in a for-profit collection without
written permission from the author.

This is the Japanese version of Tex-Edit Plus.

Tex-Edit Plus is a styled text editor that is especially adept at
formatting text for transfer over the Internet. It is fast, efficient
and uses little memory. Keep a copy in your Apple menu and an alias on
the desktop for drag-and-drop operations. System 7 or better required.

NEW -- New AppleScript properties allow you to modify each window's
background color and set default background and text colors.
Several sample color scheme scripts are included.
"Startup" and "Shutdown" scripts now allow the automatic maintenance of files,
settings, etc. A sample "workbook" is included to show how to make use
of this feature. Document creation is even easier thanks to the new
ability to drag & drop picture, sound, movie, and read-only files onto
open Tex-Edit windows. Documents now store font table information to
maintain font integrity between different systems.

With Tex-Edit Plus you can:

*Quickly create, edit and print styled text documents of unlimited size.
*View and print TeachText or SimpleText read-only ("ReadMe") documents,
including pictures.
*Easily create your own SimpleText read-only documents, including
pictures.
*View and print color PICT files, such as those produced by draw
programs or Apple's built-in screen snapshot utility.
*Copy a selection from a PICT file, cropping the image for use in a word
processor, etc.
*Play QuickTime and QuickTime VR movies.
*View, edit and print text documents created by virtually any word
processor or computer.
*Reformat downloaded e-mail or text, correcting word-wrap problems and
removing extraneous, non-Mac characters.
*Prepare text for upload to a BBS, so that people with MS-DOS systems
can view the document as it was intended to be viewed.
*Instantly quote a brief passage from received e-mail, allowing the
sender to remember their original message.
*Read any text document aloud, if you have Apple's Speech Manager
extension. (Listen to a TeachText read-only file, for example, as the
text and pictures scroll by!)
*Create simple hypertext documents.
*Insert attention-getting sound annotations to spice up ordinary
inter-office mail.
*And more...

'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do various inflection exercises, and translation exercises in

exercises based on sound or pictures; and to play various word-games.

The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that
the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a
module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used
as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for
any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition
of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as

Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages. You can
