Subject: [*] Default Folder 3.0.7 - Open/Save dialog enhancement

This is the latest release of Default Folder. Default Folder 3.0.7
should replace any previous English-language versions of Default
Folder in the archives.

Default Folder is a Mac OS 9 savvy control panel that enhances Open
and Save dialog boxes to make it easier for you to manage files on
your Macintosh. It provides many of the essential features of
commercial utilities like SuperBoomerang, Action Files, and Directory
Assistance, but without the infrequently used extras that take their
toll in compatibility, memory, and CPU usage.

In addition, Default Folder fully supports the Navigation Services
Open and Save dialogs available in Mac OS 8.5 and higher, allowing
you to access your recently used and favorite folders everywhere.

Default Folder's time-saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow you to:

- Set up a default folder for any or all applications.
- Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu.
- Easily navigate to your favorite folders.
- Share common sets of recent and favorite folders between all Open and
Save dialogs, including Navigation Services dialogs.
- Click on a Finder window to list its contents in an Open or Save dialog.
- See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu.
- Open the folder shown in an Open or Save dialog in the Finder.
- Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and
creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs.
- "Rebound" back to the last file you used.
- Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving a
file with the same name as an existing file.

Default Folder will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or
higher, including Mac OS 9.0.4, and is $25 shareware. A complete
description, details, and screen snapshots can be found at:

	<http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolder/index.html>

Version 3.0.7 includes a fix for a bug that could cause Default
Folder to crash when Internet Explorer was running. It also
correctly keeps invisible folders out of the Recent Folder list and
corrects some problems with Default Folder's popup Finder menu. Full

Subject: [*] DownloadAssistant 2.6.3

With the permission of the author, Fabrice Bianchi <fbianchi.dev@infonie.be>
I submit the neat little utility DownloadAssistant to the Info-Mac archive.
It should fit neatly into the comm/inet directory.

 From the readme file:

Overview

With this program you can start your downloads using any protocol
(ftp, hotline, carracho, http,è) and any application (Internet
Explorer, Netscape, Hotline Client,è) and leave the computer alone
securely. DownloadAssistant will automatically disconnect, then
activate sleep or shutdown.

DA helps prevent pirate intrusions into your system by reducing
useless connection time.

You can set the english speech synthesizer so DownloadAssistant will
give you audio feedback of the download status (very useful if you
are away from your computer!) This function works with DA in
foreground or background.

DA can expand files automatically with Stuffit Expanderü after
disconnection and before shutdown. Saves time!

It can generate a helpful log file to record what it did for you and when.

cases. A detailed log is available.
New in version 1.6.1 is that you can send the program to the background while

Typical MPEG-4 image sizes are 2-5 times smaller than with other image
compression technologies, with no loss of image quality. Image protection
features can disable right click copying or saving for Internet users.
e-Vue's exclusive feature for progressive display by size or quality allows

Subject: [*] ExaChess Lite 2.1 - free chess database, PGN viewer

Stuffed and BinHexed file, with abstract, attached. - Richard
ExaChess 2.1 Lite is a freeware version of ExaChess, a full-featured chess
database for the Macintosh. You can save, organize, and replay chess
games downloaded from the Internet in "PGN" format, such as the week's
grandmaster games at <http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twic.html> and
many other sites. You can use it to organize, analyze, and annotate
your own games, or use it to play against, or watch matches between, many
plug-in chess engines (Crafty, MacChess, Sigma Chess, Screamer, etc).
These free plug-ins can be downloaded at <http://www.exachess.com>.

Version 2.1 adds over 120 features to version 1.2. These are detailed
in the "What's New 2.1" file. They include: automatic annotation of
games by chess engines, colorized text to distinguish main lines from
variations, and the ability to set up multigame matches between engines.

The features of ExaChess include:

- Direct support (without conversion) of ChessBase, NICBase, and PGN
databases, as well as ExaChess's own database formats.
- Search across all databases or just a single database file by player
name, event, year, result, ECO code, opening name, position, partial
position, material, special game features, or any combination of these.
- Shows ECO code and opening name for each game and statistics for all
  matching games.
- Finds and allows easy removal of duplicate games from any database.
- Resizable, customizable 2-D color board with smooth animation.
- Flexible game parser that handles free-form text input, both algebraic
and descriptive, including move and position evaluations, variations
  and text comments.
- Records full tree of moves. Switch to variation or return to main line.
- Shows opening tree (next moves for any opening position) with stats
from the database. Quickly find matching games for any opening position.
- Supports play against the database or against external 'chess engines'
via Apple Events, including ZZZZZZ (supplied), Crafty, MacChess, Sigma
Chess, Screamer, and GnuChess (download from www.exachess.com )

ExaChess Lite omits a few features of ExaChess and is restricted to
showing the first 256 or 128 games only of larger databases.

Permission is granted for ExaChess Lite to be included on the Info-mac CD.

HTML OptimizerPro 1.8.1

What it is: Tool that checks and optimizes your web pages
Author: Ton Brand
Company: Ton's Software
License: shareware US$8
Computer: PowerPC or iMac
Mac OS: 7.5 or later
Abstract:
HTML OptimizerPro's main function is to save space on your web pages by
removing unnecessary characters and tags, making parsing the page by a
browser more efficient.
Four other useful functions of HTML OptimizerPro are:
(1) Checking the so called tagged pairs, i.e. the tags that always have to
appear together with their end tags. Further, IMG tags are checked for WIDTH,
HEIGHT and ALT attributes. ALT attributes can be added if missing, with or
without string.
(2) Checking the validity of the internal links.
(3) Marking dangling tags and missing attributes to find them quickly.
(4) Converting special characters to the &....; notation.
New in this update is more reliable optimizing, checking tags and converting
special characters, by revising the whole code.
Starting with version 1.8.1 the program has a unique creator code 'tbre'
instead of the generic HyperCard code 'Wild'.
HTML OptimizerPro is a PPC application and requires MacOS 7.5 or later.

In Jeopardy! is a game made out of frustration. As a teacher, all games of
this type contain pre-entered questions and answers. The teacher wants to
use classroom information. In Jeopardy! looks and works just like the real
thing. Enter answers and questions define dollar amounts, play with three
students, three groups or with the entire class at once. Print out three
types of follow-along / answer sheets for the students at their desks. Build
a database of games and use them over and over again. Filemaker Pro
developers will be interested in this is actually a bound Filemaker Pro
database. You'd never know it though as it acts like a commercial game
program.

Subject: [*] Kaffeine Psychosis Font

This is a new font family from Fontosaurus Text
(http://www.fontosaurus.com), which includes two faces (Normal and Heavy).
Think of it as a caffeine withdrawl fit. It was fun. After I scribbled it
out, I drank some more coffee to tide me over through the conversion
process. The archive file includes both TrueType and Postscript Type 1
fonts.

The font is "giftware" -- I'm giving the gift of freely downloadable,
kick-butt fonts. All I ask is that in return, you visit my webpage and
donate $2 to my PayPal account. There's usually an ongoing contest on the
page, which you can enter by making a donation.

Subject: [*] Keep It Up 2.4

Keep It Up version 2.4

What does it do ?

A. Keep your (server) applications running

Keep It Up (KIU) can relaunch selected applications if for some reason they
stop running (crashes, accidental quits,...) KIU can also restart your Mac
on a regular basis. This reduces the chance of anything going wrong in the
first place. KIU can also be told the keep one (server) application always
in front, which improves the performance of this application.

B. Remote Management

KIU can be used to remotely manage your Macintosh (server) using any
webbrowser. KIU has a tiny "embedded" webserver (running on a port of your
choice) that allows you to remotely:
*  restart/shutdown the Mac
* view, kill or restart running applications
*  launch applications
*  run Applescripts
* view logfiles generated by KIU or other applications
* get some info about the system (free disk space, uptime, ...)

C. KIU 2.4 introduces the following new features:

* e-mail notification: KIU can send e-mail messages to you, actively alerting you of certain events:
- an application gets relaunched
- KIU restarts the Mac
- somebody uses an invalid username/password to access the KIU webserver
- an alarm is triggered (see below)

* Alarms: KIU can monitor the memory and disk resources of your Mac. If free memory or free disk space falls below a certain preset level, this will trigger an alarm and send an e-mail notification.

KIU is $22 shareware and requires at least System 7.0 and Open Transport 1.1.1

Subject: [*] SUBMISSION: Fallen Font Family

Fallen is a "grungy" font that I put together back in 1997 and then never
did anything with it. I lost the original source files and the generated
fonts from it somewhere along the way, which was a kind of a drag...so I
recreated it over the course of a weekend. One of my personal favorites,
this one. The archive includes Fallen and Fallen Dirty faces, both in
Postscript Type 1 and TrueType format.

Fallen is a production of Fontosaurus Text, and is available there as a
free download, in Macintosh and Windows formats. All my fonts are
donationware -- if you download them and use them/link them, please donate
$2.00 (U.S.) to me. There's usually a contest going on, related to what
I'm trying to save up the money for.

You may include this font on CDs or in online archives, but it MUST include
all the contents of the original archive file, including the readme file
and the web link files. Should you include it on a CD for publication
purposes, I would appreciate a contributor's copy. Please email me at
dan.bailey@fontosaurus.com for my snail-mail address.
