Subject: [*] Accounter

Accounter is a straightforward cash book accounts system - a development
within Excel98. (You need Macintosh Excel98 and a basic familiarity with
that program).
With Accounter you know where you are and where everything is because all
entries are out in the open on a spreadsheet.
Accounter lets you break down one or more accounts into as many categories
as you wish. But you don't have to have a column for each category with
the columns extending "out west" seemingly forever - no scrolling every
time you make an entry.
Accounter makes whole or part summaries of your accounts with a choice of
how much detail you want.
Accounter handles splitting up of debits and credits into sub entries and
also lets you set up for one or more taxes such as Sales, Value Added or
Goods and Services taxes.
Accounter is simple to use but sophisticated. Shareware.

Subject: [*] BBTidy v1.0b8: BBEdit plugin checks and corrects HTML and XML

When editing HTML it's easy to make mistakes. Wouldn't it be nice if there
was a simple way to fix these mistakes automatically and tidy up sloppy
editing into nicely laid out markup? Well now there is! BBTidy is a BBEdit
(and BBEdit Lite) plugin for Mac OS designed for doing just that. BBTidy
checks and corrects HTML and XML to make it compliant with the Worldwide
Web Consortium (W3C) HTML standards.

BBTidy also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by
specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify
where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more
accessible to people with disabilities.

BBTidy is able to fix up a wide range of problems and to bring to your
attention things that you need to work on yourself. Each item found is
listed with the line number and column so that you can see where the
problem lies in your markup. BBTidy won't generate a cleaned up version
when there are problems that it can't be sure of how to handle. These are
logged as "errors" rather than "warnings".

BBTidy corrects the markup in a way that matches where possible the
observed rendering in popular browsers from Netscape and Microsoft.

BBTidy is based on the freely available "Tidy" program by Dave Raggett.
BBTidy performs in a compatible way to "Tidy", but has a graphical user
interface (GUI), and takes full advantage of BBEdit's features. Balloon
Help is available for the configuration dialog.

For more information on Dave Raggett's "Tidy", browse the enclosed HTML
file "overview.html", visit the author's web site at
<http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy>, or EMail <mailto:dsr@w3.org>.

For more information on BBEdit, visit Bare Bones Software's web site at
<http://web.barebones.com>, or EMail <mailto:support@barebones.com>.

The current version of BBTidy and other products based on "Tidy" for Mac OS
can be found at <http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/1057/tidy.html>.

System Requirements :

Any Macintosh (except Macintosh 128K, Macintosh 512Ke, Macintosh Plus,
Macintosh Portable, PowerBook 100, Macintosh Classic) running System 7.0 or
later.

Disk space required is less than 1 MB; available free memory required is
approximately 2 MB minimum, more memory is recommended.

Also requires BBEdit or BBEdit Lite.

The Book of Changes 3.4

This program is a version of the I Ching. For centuries, the I Ching has
been used both as an oracle to predict the future, and as a source of
deep wisdom. The querent asks a question, then drops three coins six
times. Each drop determines one line of a hexagram, whether is solid or
broken, moving or unmoving. The resulting six-lined figure is then
interpreted.

Even if you have no interest in divination, the I Ching can offer
valuable insight into your own psyche, shedding light on how you really
feel about a problem.

Subject: [Q] How do I defrag the HD of my iMAC?

Dear Readers,

  I recently purchased a new iMAC "indigo" (G3 350, HD7, CDROM, 64 MB RAM)
it comes with MacOs 9 and I would like to repack the HD after deleting alot
of features that dont use (like that game of bugs). I usually did defrag
booting from a CD, but this new iMac doesn't want to boot from my CD with
system 8.6. I tried to build a new cd with system 9 but this new system
doesn't fit in a ZIP100 disk that I use as volume to toast in other machine
that has cdwriter. If I simply copy the system folder that comes with the
restoration disk and burn the zip as bootable volume, the iMac show a
flashing ? in a disk icon and after some minutes, it boot from the HD.

- There is any other way to defrag or repack the iMac HD that doesn³t need
the booting from CD?

- Any reason to explain why the "indigo" doesn³t boot from System 8.6?

Many thanks!

Jose M¬

You need to rebuild the database. Check your help directions on this but
I bleieve holding down the Option Key while it is beilng launched will
give you this choice. I have not migrated to this one yet but know it
fairly well. Still don't trust it and don't want ot give up or relearn
what I can do with messages in current agent.

It really sounds like a hardware problem with the zip drive. The only
other troubleshooting step left would be to boot your friends mac from
your external HDD drive and see if you can mount zip disks with that
setup, or try an external zip drive on your machine. I'll wager that in
either case the zip disks will mount, and that will be a definitive
diagnosis for hardware problems with your zip drive.

Are you sure the drive is OK (I recently replaced my 8600/200's internal
ZIP drive which was just another click-of-death victim)?

Have you tried the drive on another computer? Are the SCSI ID numbers
and termination OK? What about the SCSI cables? Does SCSI Probe see the
drive?
