Hi,
Anyone using both Zip and Jazz? I currently have my Performa using a
Zip drive and have bought a Jazz 1m drive. I would like to use both
together, at least chained together. Until I can get the Jazz up, I
need things on the Zip. Can anyone explain the procedure for putting
them both onto the Performa? Simple instructions please! Thanks in
advance.

Brody,

There's no space being lost. The first problem is that the
Finder counts in units of 1024, but drive manufacturers use units of
1000. It makes the numbers look larger (like 17" monitors with 16.0"
viewable area). 10 * 1000 * 1000 * 1000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 =
9.3132257462 gb. Also, they tend to round a bit to make nice round
numbers -- Seagate or whoever built it probably calls that 9.1gb
drive a 9gb drive for simplicity.

Additionally, sizes may be 'unformatted capacity'. Many
floppy disks say 2.0mb capacity, but the process of formatting the
disk uses up some of that capacity, bringing the usable space down to
1.44mb . With older DD floppy disks, differences in formatting
resulted in 800k usable capacity on Macs with the SWIM (Super Wozniak
Integrated Machine) chip, vs. 720k on PCs, but I don't believe
different utilities provide significantly different formatted
capacities on current hard drives.

Subject: [*] CopyPaths 1.5J

This is the Japanese version of the CopyPaths package.

CopyPaths is a lean, robust, and easy to use Contextual Menu Plugin with a single
focus: To copy full paths to files in many different formats. I originally wrote
CopyPaths because I couldn't find a small and simple utility to do what it does
easily. CopyPaths is just about as painless as it gets. I hope you like it!

Subject: [*] NetFinder 2.1b3J - FTP client / Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the NetFinder package.

The most Finder-like FTP client for the MacOS has just got better.

NetFinder was the first FTP client to use the Finder hierarchy listing
paradigm. With an intuitive user interface that everyone is familiar
with, users can begin to use this program in no time at all.

NetFinder v1.x started the FTP client war, by being the first FTP client to:
- support resume downloading after you quit or crash.
- add drag and drop support for all operations including moving files from
one folder to another, server to server coping as well as the standard
  uploading, downloading and trashing...
- inline filename editing, just like the Finder.
- integrated BBEdit support for transparent file editing.
- support for setting permissions on files and folders (even recursively).

The Finder-like listing window supports viewing by name, date, size, and
permissions. Other features include automatic binhex, macbinary and text
translation for uploads and downloads. Supports many ftp servers.
Has speech support. Internet Config savvy. Supports bookmark lists.

What's New in v2.1

- added support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) FTP. All data transfers can
now be encrypted. Requires OpenSSL module to be installed. PPC Support
  Only.

- added support for ICI script. Customizing NetFinder to perform specific
tasks is now easier than ever. Requires Scripting Components module to be
installed. PPC Support Only. Useful scripts include:
    - Sending FTP commands.
    - Changing FTP "ping" (NOOP) interval. Or send your own custom "ping".
    - Extract URL's from any text file.
    - Search offline documentation for word.

- added support for filtering in the display using wildcards or regexp.
Allowing you to see what you want at a touch of a key.

- added support for advanced upload mirroring.
Makes maintaining a website even easier.

- added support for server parser plugins. Allowing NetFinder to support
just about any FTP server with a non-standard listing. You can even write
  your own parsers.

Subject: [*] VSE Web Site Turbo 3.1 - Optimizes web pages, GIF and JPEG images

This is VSE Web Site Turbo 3.1, a new version of the award-winning
web page optimization tool.

VSE Web Site Turbo is a tool that tries to prevent web surfers from
leaving a web site before it has been loaded.

It does that by making web pages load as fast as possible. VSE Web
Site Turbo strips unneeded data from web pages, resulting in size
reductions averaging from 20 to 50 percent based on content. It also
optimizes JPEG and GIF images.

The appearance of the web page is not changed in any way.

The faster a web site loads, the better is the visitor's impression
of the company, the web site and the product. In addition, the
application save bandwidth costs.

The new version now supports 68k based Macintosh computers, supports
Miva Script code, optimizes files a bit faster and fixes some minor
bugs.

System Requirements:
- System 7.5 or later
- 5 MB of free RAM

The difference is whether 1 GB = 1000*1000*1000 bytes or
1024*1024*1024 bytes. Note that 1.024 cubed equals 1.074, which
accounts for your 7% loss.

Check out http://www.csis.hku.hk/~choi/emacs. Please note that
dump-emacs is not implemented, so that loadup.el must be loaded at every
startup, which takes a bit of time -- long enough to be annoying, IMHO.

You also might want to consider Alpha; check

Subject: EMACS on the Mac and now TECO (is there no end to this

Thank you all the replies I have received. I got a pointer to this
site http://www.csis.hku.hk/~choi/emacs/index.html where an alpha
version of EMACS 20.n is located. In addition this sites creator has
placed the source code and binary files in an account on
SOURCEFORGE.COM at
ftp://mac-emacs.sourceforge.net/pub/mac-emacs/emacs-20.6-mac-bin-d5.smi.bin.

I might as well go out on a limb but has anyone an idea where you
might find a copy of TECO (for any platform?). (EMACs was first
written as a TECO macro.)

There was one suggestion that I consider BBEdit. I use BBEdit and
some of the built in HTML "macros" are pretty nice. BBEdit has not
implemented all the "standard Patterns" for searches yet and this is
sometimes a problem for me. By the way their support for the product
is about the best I have ever received! I have sent and received
replies pretty late at night (their time) much to my surprise.

Another editor for the Mac with extensive scripting and pretty
extensive search and replace is QUED/M by NISUS.
